Suedpol is a multi purpose cultural center in Kriens, Switzerland, close to Lucerne, that houses a theater, a symphony orchestra, a brass band, a music school, a restaurant, a flea market, and rents its rooms for performances of music, dance, theatre, literature, digital arts and so on. All posters are printed in size 42 x 30 cm using the Risograph technique, a kind of small scale silk screen printing.

Like every year, you can buy the südpol posters of the last season (11/12) in calendar form. The all in all twenty-four posters were printed by hand in A3 size on a Risograph MZ.
Bound and wrapped the package costs 50 Swiss francs.

The calendar can be ordered either directly via Südpol by
mail or via the website
Guzuu.

Acapulco

As a side effect while we made some experiments with water, oil and pigments, we came across magnificent imagery.
This resulted in a video clip with perhaps the most slowest voltage increase ever. It does not happen much. But it is beau-ti-ful. So, five minutes of patience for the song «Acapulco» by Field Studies.

The Graphic Design Festival in Breda asked me to design a poster to the motto: Greed is out, Empathy is in.

A cash tower at the moment of collapse. As a metaphor for our fragile financial system which is based on greed, power and blind megalomania. Today it seems that it only takes one reckless move of a player and a whole country goes down the drain.

Herman Miller

I had the pleasure to design a poster for the legendary furniture manufacturer Herman Miller. In its assortment there are many style icons such as chairs by Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson. My task was to choose one of their products, to interpret it. The poster was later exhibited in Melbourne, Australia. The exhibition showed the impressive poster history of Herman Miller, with posters from designers such as Armin Hofmann and Steve Frykholm.

The Eames Molded Plastic Arm Chair is a beautiful chair. From the beginning my intention was to visualize the beauty of this perfect form without making a major intervention. Simply out of respect for the Eames couple and their work. I found that the beauty of the curves and bends of this chair must speak for themselves. Rather it was just the task to focus the viewer to the perfection of its form.
After some research I noticed the physicality of the Eames Moulded. Viewing from certain direction with tree simple shapes the chair can be transformed into a women’s body.

B-Sides 2012

This year’s B-Sides festival is fully dedicated to a B. The big B. Obviously it’s a bee, it’s a comic book character. In terms of the level of awareness I guess one could compare her with Mickey Mouse or Donald or perhaps even more appropriate Goofy. That means B is quite famous. Or was it at least once in the past. Or, ok perhaps not.

In this issue you will find nothing but fake comic covers and comic strips of the big b that in addition have random connections with the bands that are playing at the festival.

Noël Leu asked me if I could design one of 26 postcards as advertising for his beautiful font GT Walsheim. Every postcard contains a letter of the typeface and is an interpretation of an old lithographic poster. In my case it was the «K» and a poster by Otto Baumberger for an international air show in Zurich in 1932.
